Custom Orthotics

If you're dealing with ongoing foot, knee or hip pain, or fatigue when standing, there's often an underlying issue that off-the-shelf solutions can't solve.

Custom orthotics are prescribed clinical devices that correct foot mechanics and improve movement, instead of just masking symptoms. At Clear Step Podiatry, advanced scanning and 3D printing help us develop your custom orthotic inserts as part of a wider treatment plan. Every pair is designed from a precise 3D scan of your own feet and 3D-printed to prescription, never adjusted from a generic, off-the-shelf mould. It's a level of precision that isn't available everywhere in Auckland.

For lasting relief and better alignment, book an appointment at our clinic in Grey Lynn, Auckland.

Custom orthotic foot inserts, built around your movement

Many patients have tried off-the-shelf shoe inserts, with minimal results.

Generic inserts can't address how your feet absorb load, so people often continue to experience heel or arch pain, knee, hip or lower back discomfort, or soreness after standing, walking or exercise.

At Clear Step Podiatry, we use advanced 3D scanning technology, 3D printing, and a thorough biomechanics assessment to address your specific issue.

Your custom orthotics are designed to improve load distribution, posture, movement and alignment, to reduce pressure on painful areas and support everyday movement. We're an ACC Registered Provider in Auckland, so your podiatrist shoe inserts may be subsidised.

What to expect from your custom orthotic inserts

Orthotics are clinical shoe inserts placed inside your footwear to support healthy foot and leg function. We assess your posture, balance and gait analysis to tailor the material, positioning and support features to you.

Custom orthotics typically last several years, depending on use, activity level, and footwear type. Prescribed and fitted by your podiatrist, shoe inserts come in rigid, semi-rigid or soft options depending on your needs.

What can orthotics help with?

Orthotics improve how pressure is distributed through the feet, and how your bones, muscles, joints and soft tissues function and move through the gait cycle. They can be used as a treatment or a preventative tool.

Orthotics are a key part of treatment for a range of conditions and alignments, including:

  • Facilitating the healing of damaged muscles and tissues in conditions like plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendinopathy
  • Relieving pressure from painful areas, including corns, calluses and ulcers
  • Improving walking and running techniques
  • Stabilising and supporting the feet and body, and easing knee pain
  • Supporting foot and leg abnormalities, such as limb length discrepancy
  • Reducing pain from systemic conditions such as arthritis
  • Supporting the arch and redistributing body weight in patients with flat feet or high arches
